Prepare timely engineering analyses and reports for the following:
Roadway, structure foundation, and building foundation design.
  Material sources.
  Special problems on projects.
Existing highway problems; slope failures, embankment settlements, etc.
Lead in the implementation of Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) for geotechnical applications.
Request appropriate laboratory tests to determine desired soil parameters.
Review and assist in the preparation of specifications for Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, Soil Nail
walls, Drilled Shafts, Blasting, and other geotechnical aspects of projects.
Rockfall and Slope inventory database – maintain and administer funds to address existing problematic cut
and fill slopes along the state highway system.
Determine the need for, and oversee installation of, geotechnical instrumentation to monitor slope stability,
settlement, and characterize subsurface profile, etc.
Recommend geotechnical projects including rockfall mitigation projects for inclusion in the Highway
  Construction Program.
Assist engineering districts with geotechnical aspects of problem locations and provide support for inclusion
or projects in the 5-year Highway Construction Plan.
Provide information and technical assistance to the engineering districts and other ADOT sections, other
government agencies, and consultants during construction of geotechnical related project phases.
Review Materials Design Reports for geotechnical completeness.
Provide computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) services for Materials Group.
Conduct engineering studies on geotechnical subjects.
Continuously improve our geotechnical expertise through training, mentoring and research.
Provide and maintain material sites throughout the state for construction and maintenance of state highway
  system.
Investigate geological events that may affect the highway infrastructure.
Conduct or review geophysical investigations.
Coordinate environmental activities and compliance documentation with districts and the Office of
  Environmental Services.
Perform inspections and facilitate permitting of materials sources with federal land management agencies and
  private land owners.
